Mai Phan (she/her)

GOOD Lead, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Working Group

    Mai is a passionate advocate for data equity, social justice, equity and human rights. She has over 20 years experience teaching, researching, developing and leading initiatives to address systemic barriers and promote inclusive practices and policies in public sector organizations that are evidence-based and community-centred. Her interests are in all things data related, including questioning and exploring our practices of collecting, governing, using and sharing data that honour our values, promote collective and individual empowerment and support more sustainable and humane ways of being.

    Mai is a data expert consultant and senior research advisor (on leave) at the Anti-Racism Directorate, where she helped lead the development and establishment of the Ontario Anti-Racism Data Standards. She holds a doctorate degree in social policy, social research and sociology from the University of Kent at Canterbury, UK, and a masters of arts from the University of Toronto, Sociology.
